Divisibility Rule of 2:
A number is divisible by 2, if its units digits is an even digit i.e. 0.2,4,6, or 8
Justification:
Let n be any natural number. Then according to the general form it can be represented as,
n = 10a + b, where b is units digit of n.
Now 10a is an even number because 10 has a factor 2 and any multiple of 10 will have a factor 2
And the sum of two even numbers is an even number, whereas the sum of an even number and an odd number is an odd number.
Therefore, n = 10a + b is even if b is an even digit.
Hence Test of Divisibility By 2 i.e. a number is divisible by 2, if its units digits is an even digit i.e. 0.2,4,6, or 8 is justified.
Illustration: Let n be a natural number. If the division n+2 leaves a remainder of 1, what might be the units digit of n?
Solution: Since the division leaves a remainder of 1. So, n must be an odd natural number. Hence, its units digit can be 1,3,5,7 or 9.
